This may seem a typically British excuse for poor performance or service, but I’m going to attempt to blame our dreadful weather for delays in candidates receiving feedback.

As a candidate one of the most frustrating things about going through the recruitment process is that you will make several applications and not receive feedback or even recognition that your CV has been sent. At Core Talent we recognise this is a problem and always aim to give feedback as quickly as possible and in as much detail as possible. Almost every candidate will have many more unsuccessful applications than successful one – especially in such a competitive labour market.

One of the common frustrations we have as recruiters is when we don’t get feedback from our clients, as it is an opportunity to add value back to unsuccessful candidates. Often the reasons are beyond our control and this summer I have noticed many of the recruitment processes out there have been a bit stop-start. This is to be expected in the summer months as many people involved in the recruitment process will have holidays book and the process will go on hold whilst they are away.

So why is the weather to blame for lack of feedback? Well this year Manchester Airport has received record numbers of people looking to book last minute holidays in order to escape the bad weather. These people are probably involved in interview processes and as a result are unable to give feedback from the comfort of their sun-loungers. So there we have it – if you are experiencing slow recruitment processes, it’s more than likely that one of the stakeholders in the process has done what we all want to do and found a good deal on a holiday in the sun. The good news is that the weather is set to improve so we will hopefully get the summer we’ve all been waiting for and hopefully you’ll finally get the job you’ve been waiting for.
