I don’t think anyone within Toyota could have forecast what a torrid year they would have, but the Tsunami and the floods in Thailand severely restricted their production capability. So it is undoubtedly good news to see an increase in their sales forecast as they recover from the extraordinary natural disasters.

Toyota’s resilience in the aftermath of the Tsunami and floods are once again proof that the constant drive to improve processes and optimise supply chain efficiencies mean that they are able to deal with the unexpected.

The rise in sales has also been mirrored by other leading Japanese car makers Honda and Nissan with the availability of parts from Japan now improving as the supply chain recovers. This can only be good news for UK suppliers as well. Having spoken to a number of supply chain managers within some Toyota’s UK based suppliers, they will welcome the news that busier times lie ahead.

Whilst the euro zone continues to be a source of worry, it is clear the automotive industry remains buoyant and it’s particularly encouraging to see the Japanese manufacturers bounce back after a tough year.
