*** INSTRUMENTATION ENGINEER - GEN MANUFACTURING - LEEDS - to £35,000 ***
THE COMPANY
Our client is a leading manufacturer of valves and actuators in to the Oil & Gas and Nuclear environments.
THE ROLE
The instrumentation engineer will be required to control the parameters of valve/actuator systems by improving system performance, productivity, reliability, safety, optimisation and stability.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
This role will be based in the Control Valve engineering department but will involve interaction between the sales department and shop floor.
* Evaluate customer specifications to confirm design compliance for the application
* Review P&ID's, complete valve and instruments take-offs and prepare valve and instrument lists
* Review customer specifications to match specifications or clearly define differences (clarifications or exceptions list)
* Recommend, specify and prepare requisition for inquiry and purchase of instrumentation, valves, positioners and other piping components.
* Recommend level instruments, flow instruments, manual valves, etc best suited for application
* Coordinate with Engineering Department to identify equipments that require spare parts per Weir requirements or client specifications
* Provide schematic details to production department for installation of instruments
* Review and approve subcontractor field instrument and electrical hookup scope, and ensure scope meets client specifications or Weir standard
* Review vendor drawings, hookup, calculation and other technical documentation related to instrumentation
* Involvement/assistance with final inspection for instrumentation and valves
* Review instrument software and be familiar with configuration and optimisation techniques
* Establish instrument stroke speed requirements so that stroke speeds can accurately be defined.
* Design instrument mounting equipment utilising 3D Solid Edge CAD software.
* Attend site installations to configure instrumentation. This could involve going offshore.
* Generate Bill of Material for instrument component parts.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
Preferably degree qualified or Engineering background within the Chemical, Petroleum, or Electrical industries, previous experience in the specification and selection of instrumentation for control valves within the power, oil and gas sectors would be desirable.
- Familiar with national and international codes and standards for instrument and electrical, valves testing and construction, inspection and NDE requirements, and field installation and start-up procedures
- Good knowledge of control valves, flow elements sizing, selection and applications
- Good knowledge of level instrumentation types and their applications
- Good knowledge of all valve types and their limitations
- Knowledge and electrical controls and wiring essential
- Experience with field start-up, calibration and trouble shooting of instrumentation is an advantage
- Ability to read and understand P&ID's
- Knowledge of some materials of construction and their application
- Working knowledge of ISA guidelines and symbols for instrumentation
- Familiar with applicable ASME and API guidelines
- Liaise with other departments within the company associated with designing, estimating, fabricating and operating.
- Ability to work independently with some supervision
- Confident in using Word, Excel, PowerPoint and engineering design programs
- Ability to meet deadlines as established by project schedules.
- Experience use of Solid Edge would be advantageous
- Knowledge of SAP would be advantageous
