Vacancy Description

*** Mechanical Improvements Engineer - FMCG - Preston - c£38,000 ***

 

THE COMPANY Our client is a manufacturer of world-renowned brands, and a leading performer within fast moving consumer goods.

THE ROLE Your role will primarily be concerned with managing the performance of an automated production line. You will be responsible for monitoring line performance, analysing problems which arise and identifying solutions using root cause analysis. You will identify process improvements, personnel performance improvements, and other means which wil lead to increased productivity levels.

Other duties will include:

* Addresses safety concerns and incidents within department
* Manages people: leads shift handover meetings, work schedules, training needs, union relationships, individual performance, twice-yearly one-on-one sessions, innovation program and team motivation
* Looking for ways to increase operator utilization & upskilling
* Training plans regularly reviewed for all staff - appropriate records maintained accordingly
* Walk the floor - lead by example, positively challenge under-performance, reinforce good behaviours
* Celebrate success - work collaboratively to develop appropriate recognition policies for the site
* Carries out trouble shooting with maintenance department to issue root cause correction, identifies and executes proper process adjustments when required
* Participates in the daily packaging meetings
* Ensures cost optimization across all areas of the department
* Assists with capital projects as required
* Shares accountability for maintenance cost performance
* Ensures accuracy of material cycle counts
* Creates job requests based on the follow-up needs of the intervention reports
* Assigns work orders to maintenance
* Manages shift rota's, including arranging replacements for absent employees on the next shift
* Ensures availability of raw materials prior to the start of the production run
* Follows up on innovation activities from the team
* Manages line start-up and shutdowns
* Controls lines processes using short interval controls

 

THE PERSON

* Engineering qualification is beneficial
* Experience of high speed production in a management or supervisory role
* Experience managing significant changes issues
* Excellent knowledge of manufacturing principles, tools and techniques
* Good record of delivering process improvement
* Knowledge of project management principles
* Sound knowledge of the packaging process;
* Excellent writing and verbal communication skills;
* Highly results focused, and with a strong attention to detail
* Highly structured and systematic approach to delivering business solutions
* Excellent team player, able to develop strong relationships with colleagues and peers
* Leads by example, and lives the company's values
* Able to work on own initiative and prioritize workload effectively
