Our client, a worldwide drinks manufacturer, is seeking a Packaging Manager to join their existing team in the Preston area.
Job Description
To manage the team's daily and weekly activities in order to meet departmental KPI requirements for service and quality at optimum cost through the conformance to agreed ways of working.
Duties & Responsibilities

- Manages the performance of the packaging line

- Contributes to the identification of improvement plans as reviewed during the daily, weekly and monthly meetings processes

- Report all relevant team KPIs as defined through the MCRS process (eg losses, LTNW , energy, utilities, etc)

- Motivates the team to achieve departmental KPIs as required
-
- Complies to EH&S, quality and HACCP standards
-
- Manages people: leads shift handover meetings, work schedules, training needs, union relationships, individual performance, yearly one-on-one sessions, innovation program and team motivation

- Looking for ways to increase operator utilization & upskilling whilst ensuring compliance with and helping to create SOP's

- Training plans regularly reviewed for all staff - appropriate records maintained accordingly

- Walk the floor - lead by example, positively challenge under-performance, reinforce good behaviors

- Ensure staff are motivated to achieve high standards of performance with department
-
- Carries out trouble shooting with maintenance department to issue root cause correction, identifies and executes proper process adjustments when required

- Participates in the daily packaging meetings

- Ensures cost optimization across all areas of the department

- Assists with capital projects as required
-
- Shares accountability for maintenance cost performance

- Ensures accuracy of material cycle counts
-
- Assigns cycle plan work orders to area maintenance
-
- Manages shift rosters, including arranging replacements for absent employees on the next shift
-
- Ensures availability of raw materials prior to the start of the production run

- Manages line start-up and shutdowns
-
- Controls lines processes using short interval controls
-
- Performance Management & compliance with disciplinary procedures
The Individual
Education
-
- A degree or further education qualification in a related discipline would be advantageous
Experience
-
- Experience managing teams to targets, KPIs
-
- Experience of high speed production in a management or supervisory rol
-
- Experience managing significant changes issues
-
- Excellent knowledge of manufacturing principles, tools and techniques
-
- Good record of delivering process improvement

- Knowledge of project management principles
