Ask An Apprentice - Charlie Walsh

​ During National Apprentice Week, we talked to some people at Core Talent Recruitment directly involved in Apprenticeship programmes. Charlie joined us as a Level 3 Business Administration apprentice in 2020:-​'I enjoyed school and college, but when it came down to it, I could not see myself at University. I looked at different options, including getting a sales job. I decided on the apprenticeship scheme with Core Talent through Learning Unlimited, which works with companies on apprenticeships and training programs. They told me that they had been working with Core Talent for several years and had seen several successes there. I have enjoyed the programme, but it has been challenging. I joined just before the pandemic and lockdown; however, I got loads of support from the business and passed the qualification. ​Soon after this, I made the business aware that I wanted to progress further and move into a sales role. We put a plan in place, and I worked through it with training and support. I exceeded the target and started my current role as a Resourcer. An apprenticeship has given me an opportunity that I otherwise might have struggled to get into. ​So, what would I say to anyone thinking of an apprenticeship? You get out what you put in. Just go for it. But, doing something which you enjoy, makes it a lot easier.'​Charlie's Tutor at Learning Unlimited said, 'Charlie has shown an excellent level of determination, commitment, and engagement with me and worked to a position where we were able to get his file completed by his proposed end date and finish his qualification! This hasn't been an easy 18 months, and many students have struggled, so I want to give Charlie the credit he deserves in getting this qualification completed and wish him the best of luck in the following stages of his development.
