Design Engineer

Aerospace

Southampton/Salisbury/ Basingstoke

£40,000 - £45,000

Role

Our client is looking to add a Design Engineer to their talented team with extensive composite and Design knowledge. You will take ownership of a number of Design Projects from blue sky thinking into production. Also responsible for:

  • Transform ideas into real products and solutions,

  • Plan, manage and coordinate the execution of composite engineering projects

  • Study design brief and develop possible composite design solutions

  • Ensure that products can be made cost effectively and efficiently

  • Study, research & develop ideas for new composite products and the processes

  • Provide composite engineering support to other departments

  • Composite subject matter expert

  • Modify existing products and processes to increase efficiency or improve performance

  • DFA

  • Supply drawings & 3D modelling using CAD/ Solidworks

  • Create prototypes

  • Collect and analyse data

  • Modify and retest designs

  • Write regular progress reports and present them

  • QC procedures & assist inspection

  • Work with projects

  • Manage subcontractors

  • Develop a thorough understanding of business products and processes

  • Assist workshop for assembly or manufacture of parts where required

Person
ESSENTIAL

  • Qualified to HND/Degree level in an engineering discipline

  • Strong composite material experience

  • Blue sky thinking approach

  • Ambitious and innovative

  • Must possess a sound knowledge of mechanical engineering principles and product design processes

  • Strong working in a team

  • Maths and IT skills

  • Commercial awareness

  • Excellent IT skills (Solidworks and MS Office)

DESIRABLE

  • Aerospace experience

  • Management, leadership or the desire to lead would be an advantage

  • 5-10 years' experience

  • Project management experience
