Engineering Director

The Role

Reporting to the Global Head of Engineering, the Engineering Director will provide all engineering support to the business. Responsible for the strategy and roll out of all associated engineering activities and projects with in the UK sites.

  • Ensure all engineering projects, initiative and processes are in conformance with policies and procedures

  • Allocation of engineering resources to support the delivery of Project

  • Lead a large cross functional team

  • Responsible for all recruitment, career development, mentoring, training and development

  • Work with engineering managers across sites and peers/ senior managers

  • Establish the engineering vision, system

  • Budget control

  • Evaluate, capture new business with other senior managers

  • Keep up to date with market trends, competitors, customer needs

  • Live through the business values

  • Deliver technical solutions for NPI

  • Repair development, process qualification and cost reduction priorities

  • Airworthiness / engineering data is compliant

  • Develop project standards

  • Develop training for new processes and procedures

  • Work with ops and quality assurance and maximise right first time

  • Lead advanced manufacturing concepts and technology ahead of competitors

  • Establish and develop a technology roadmap

  • Deliver tech solutions for NPI and R&D

The Person

The experience required of the Aerospace Engineering Director based from the Gloucester site will include:

ESSENTIAL

  • Aero/Defence experience

  • 10 years' management experience in engineering

  • Hydraulic and electro-mechanical actuation applications experience

  • 5 years' engineering director experience

  • Experience in hardware design

  • Strong man manager

  • Leading and developing team of engineers in an Aerospace environment

  • Strong knowledge and experience of working with aircraft systems, sub-systems or products,

  • Experience of the design lifecycle, verification and validation requirements, and production processes

  • Strong man manager

  • Customer focus

  • Analytical and problem solving skills

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

DESIRABLE

  • University degree (ideally in mechanical, electrical or engineering subject)

  • Aircraft actuation systems, wings/ structures, fuel systems, avionics or landing gear experience

  • Chartered engineer

  • DO-254 and software per DO-178 preferred

  • Six sigma, lean etc
