Head of Purchasing



£70,000 - £80,000 plus benefits package

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join a leading Automotive supplier based in the Coventry area as Head of Purchasing.

The Role

You will be challenged with taking cost out of the business and the supply base, the operational and strategic management of a large team and the implementation of long term agreements. You will need to be able to operate with autonomy in the corporate structure and take ownership of all purchasing activity of the department.

Your role will involve understanding of supplier performance in respect to their new product introduction, quality, cost, risk and management. In this role, you will also be looking to develop and drive continuous improvement in the purchasing activity. Key responsibilities will likely include;

  • Ensuring that materials are purchased at the most competitive prices, on time and to the required specifications

  • Responsible for the supplier performance activity and ensuring that targets are reached for each project

  • Responsible for planning project purchasing team's activities, setting objectives and evaluating performance and creation of development plans

  • Leading reviews and negotiating with suppliers

  • Manage properly capacity at suppliers & anticipate supplier risk with proper back-up plans

  • Lead supplier reviews & negotiations

The Person

The ideal Head of Purchasing will need to have strong communication skills and stakeholder senior management skills. Key requirements for the role will include;

  • Significant experience in Sector, Automotive (tier 1 preferably) or alternatively complex manufacture is essential

  • Degree qualified

  • An understanding of global sourcing

  • Budget experience

  • Strong negotiation skills

Candidates without experience of the automotive industry at OEM, Tie 1 or Tier 2 level will unfortunately not be considered for this role.
