Head of Purchasing
£75,000 - £85,000 plus benefits package
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join a leading global Automotive supplier based in the Birmingham area as Head of Purchasing.
Reporting to the Group Purchasing Director, as a Head of Purchasing for this leading Automotive supplier in the Birmingham area, you will be challenged with taking cost out of the business and the supply base, the operational and strategic management of a large team and the implementation of long term agreements. You will need to be able to operate with autonomy in the corporate structure and take ownership of all purchasing activity of the department.
Your role will involve understanding of supplier performance in respect to their new product introduction, quality, cost, risk and management. In this role, you will also be looking to develop and drive continuous improvement in the purchasing activity.
Key responsibilities will likely include;
Ensure materials are purchased at the most competitive prices worldwide, to the required specifications
Responsible for the supplier performance, ensuring that targets are reached for each and every assignment
Responsible for planning the purchasing team's activity, setting the objectives and evaluating performance
Manages the budget for the department
Negotiating with global suppliers
Leading all performance reviews
Manage capacity at suppliers & anticipate up and coming supplier risk with established back-up plans
Successfully set up and lead new Purchasing initiatives
Drive price reduction activity with suppliers, lead supplier reviews + negotiations
We are looking to recruit an experienced Automotive Head of Purchasing for our client in the Birmingham area who has operated at Head of Purchasing or at Purchasing Director level. The ideal Head of Purchasing will need to have strong communication and stakeholder senior management skills. Key requirements for the role will include;
Experience in Sector, Automotive (tier 1 preferably) or alternatively complex manufacture is essential
Degree qualified - Engineering or Business related is preferred
Vast experience managing a large team
An understanding of lean techniques and global sourcing
Financial acumen and budget experience
Strong negotiation skills
