LAB TECHNICIAN

AEROSPACE

BURNLEY

A fantastic position for a Lab Technician has become available for a Tier 1 Aerospace Business based in Burnley/Blackburn area. The business have a market leading product and supply globally in to a number of OEMs.

The Role

  • Preparation of laboratory procedures, data cards and work instructions

  • Preparation and testing of metallographic samples for: Plasma Coatings, Braze, EDM, Resistance Weld, Welding / LASER welding, Laser cutting

  • Perform routine testing (metallographic, hardness, alpha case, electrolytic etching etc)

  • Analysing and recording data, technical qualification and failure investigation supported by the production of written laboratory reports

  • Provide technical support and training for materials and special processes

  • Review production routings & FAIRs

  • Support and maintain business approvals for customer / NADCAP

  • Audit preparation

  • Carry out internal quality audits

  • Root cause corrective actions investigations

  • Support new processes and equipment

  • Customer and supplier liaison on technical issues

The Person

  • Academic background in a technical subject (Engineering, Material Science, Physics, Chemistry, etc). Metallurgical or material science an advantage, particularly within the aviation sectors

  • Ideally have previous experience of welding (TIG, Resistance, Laser), brazing (Vacuum / Touch), thermal/plasma coatings, non-conventional machining (Laser / EDM) would be an advantage

  • Good oral, written and personal communication skills, experience of delivering training would be an advantage.

  • Meticulous attention to detail and analytical & problem solving skills (Six Sigma, 8D, A3, Root Cause Corrective Action (RCCA)

  • Problem solving such as: six sigma, 8D, A3, root cause corrective action

  • Computer literate - full range of MS Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Access)
