Currently recruiting on behalf of a leading M&E Contractor who specialise in the installation of M&E Services in to the Rail and Infrastructure Sectors.

Reporting into the Head of Estimating your role will be to prepare accurate and timely cost estimates for projects to aid management in bidding on or determining price of service. You will also assist in the evaluation of project risk factors and commercial opportunities arising from new and existing bids and maintain communication with all stakeholders internally and externally.

Role Responsibilities

  • Review enquiry documentation to fully determine and understand the full extent of the client's enquiry. Take responsibility for Document Checklist.

  • Quantify the extent of the works involved. Produce accurate take off and measure for tenders to ensure the prime cost of the project is fully understood.

  • Review commercial / technical risks associated with enquiries to find the best solution.

  • Vet enquiries allocated in order to comply with the preparation and dispatch of accurate supplier/subcontract enquiries to the timescales dictated.

  • Analyse quotations and make recommendations that best suits the business.

  • Take responsibility prior to settlement meetings to check accuracy of the information presented.

  • Identify potential risks / opportunities within the scope of enquiries received.

  • Identify third party requirements, internal or external, to ensure all information is collated in respect of enquiries.

  • Source and provide costings for input into tender documentation to achieve cost effective competitive tender. Input accurate information into Amtech or other applications.

  • Identify and understand the programme requirements. Give input to planner to allow production of accurate tender programme.

  • Raise queries internally and externally and where necessary.

  • Review the contract conditions and highlight these to the Commercial Director for discussion and evaluation at the earliest possible time.

  • Work as part of the estimating team by assisting with the production of accurate and timely estimates. Liaising with other estimating professionals within the business to identify, share and implement best practice to allow the production of cogent proposals for management approval.

  • Implement effective time management of the complete bid process to ensure the timely presentation of tender documentation for sign off and approval by directors.

  • Prepare and deliver a presentation of the bid scope / client deliverables at settlement meetings to allow senior management to understand the project.

  • Prepare each tender in a consistently structured and accurate format in full compliance with the company policies, standards and processes, with appropriate consideration of all foreseeable construction, technical and commercial risks.

  • Represent the company at meetings or tender interviews with a full knowledge of the project.

  • Ability to work as part of a team on major tenders and with minimum supervision on all work.

Person Specification

  • Degree / HNC / HND (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering (or similar field of study and/or trade experience as time-served plumber, HVAC technician or mechanical engineer)

  • Formal estimating experience on Rail / Commercial / Industrial / Infrastructure Projects

  • Detailed understanding of RMM and NRM measurement methods

  • Competent in Amtech estimation

  • Skilled in using Microsoft Excel, Word & PowerPoint

  • Previous proven experience in Estimator Role
