Motion Control Director (Suspension / Braking Controls)

Two exciting opportunities have arisen to join a market leading, highly innovative Automotive manufacturer based in Munich, Germany. My client are looking for two Director level candidates with experience in Motion Control - one to focus on Suspension Director with a focus on suspension control and the other to focus on Braking controls. They have a global footprint and a reputation of being leaders in the high tech EV field.

The Role

Reporting to the VP of Engineering you will have full autonomy for either the Suspension or Braking function, with an initial focus in a stand alone capacity to build the technology and platform as a subject matter expert before scaling a high performing team in the future.


Key tasks include -

  • Developing system and function definition, integration of vehicle longitudinal control, vehicle dynamic control etc
  • Develop function requirements and control architecture, leading team to perform function implementation and validation;
  • Define function interaction with Autonomous driving from motion domain, including predictive control;
  • Support motion related experience definition and performance integration.

The Person

We are looking to recruit an experienced expert within Motion Control with a grounding in Software (not purely hardware orientated) and have a track record of being a subject matter expert in your field, establishing both the technology and business framework.

You will be technology lead and enjoy taking on hands on activity for c1yr before scaling the function.

It is essential candidates have -

  • Experience of working in an Automotive OEM or Tier 1 environment, ideally in global matrix organisations
  • A minimum of 10 year's experience in industry
  • Of which at least 5 year's experience in Motion Control with a focus on either Suspension or Braking
  • For those with suspension experience you should have an understanding of active damper, air spring levelling and rate control
  • For those with braking experience you should have an understanding in the braking and stability control area
  • User Experience and Design thinking is preferred.


Unfortunately for this role Automotive application experience is essential, candidates without experience of working in an Automotive environment at OEM or Tier 1 or Tier 2 level will not be considered for the position but may be considered for future roles.
