Cabling/Civils Industry

Office based - sites are based UK wide

£50,000 - £60,000

Car allowance and mileage payments

Core Talent are currently looking for a Planner, ideally with experience within the Cabling and/or Civils industries though this isn't essential. We are working with an exciting and ever-growing tier 2 contractor who specialise predominantly in HV Cable Installation & Jointing, UK wide and up to and including 400kV, working with all the major Network providers including National Grid, Western Power Distribution, Northern Power Grid and more. Though they are a Tier 2 contractor, they often take on Tier 1 responsibilities and have ambitious, yet realistic growth plans which could see them increase 10-fold in the next 5 years. As their project portfolio and capabilities within the industry increase, so does their need for Planning support. They are looking for a Planner to support an existing Planner in the business to develop and maintain Project Programmes, including recording progress against a measured baseline.

Role and responsibilities:

  • Work with the Project Managers to convert Tender Programmes to Delivery Programmes
  • Project Governance Reports.
  • Ensure Project Programmes are soundly prepared, managed and updated using the WBS - allowing effective programme management and reporting.
  • Update every live project each month with Project Manager e.g. Progress against baseline.
  • Provide Project Manager's with PDF updates of project programmes for issue to Clients if required.
  • Work with Project Manager's to develop realistic action plans to recover slippage.
  • Be aware of the need to satisfy customer requirements with the aim of enhancing the customers' perception and satisfaction. Particular care is need with completion and commissioning activities. Projects and solutions are not complete until certified by the client.
  • Provide support, as and when required, with the provision of plans and methodologies at tender stage. To show we have a thorough understanding of the project.
  • Provide detailed and resourced contract programmes and regular progress reporting thereon.
  • Ensure construction sequence includes client requirements, APS programme initiatives, procurement and testing/commissioning.
  • Promote APS at presentations and meetings as and when required.
  • Continually look for new or innovative construction, planning and reporting techniques and advise of any applications showing the possibility of benefits to APS to keep the business at the fore front of performance, delivery and technology.
  • As required, visit sites to ascertain conditions and constraints to be taken into account in preparing tender programmes and method statements to show we have a thorough understanding of the project.
  • Work with and co-ordinate with the Planning Team to provide the Project Managers with an excellent planning service.

The individual (Essential skills in Bold):

  • Qualification in project management, planning or construction management
  • Prior experience in Planning, Project management or Estimating (not necessarily in construction) - someone with skills or experiences of programs and involvement in drafting.
  • Experience of at least some of; impact programs, compensations, project extensions, acceleration programs, cost loading, tender programs, Baselines, sequencing programs, value analysis, variations (CVRs) & resource analysis.
  • Understanding of RAMS and Health and safety
  • Experience of capital works in water and wastewater.
  • Interested in working with detail together with the ability to deliver accurate detailed information -whilst understanding the wider picture of both the project and company from an operational, health and safety and commercial perspective.
  • Willing to assist with tenders and drafting up programs.
  • Need to be inquisitive and get to understand everyone's roles within the business to gain a clearer picture of how to make the programs more efficient.
  • Need a knowledge/understanding of construction (preferably Civils, Cabling, Rail)
  • Detail driven, can problem solve and dissect tasks to the minute detail whilst looking at the bigger picture.
  • Good communicator - Written and verbally
  • Contract/commercial awareness
  • Challenges people and not afraid to speak to big characters.
  • CCSC card
