Core Talent are currently looking for Construction Project Managers with experience within the Cabling and/or Civils industries. We are working with an exciting and ever-growing tier 2 contractor who specialise predominantly in HV Cable Installation & Jointing, UK wide and up to and including 400kV, working with all the major Network providers including National Grid, Western Power Distribution, Northern Power Grid and more. Though they are a Tier 2 contractor, they often take on Tier 1 responsibilities and have ambitious, yet realistic growth plans which could see them increase 10-fold in the next 5 years. As their project portfolio and capabilities within the industry increase, so does their need for Project Management support. They are looking for Project Managers with High Voltage/Cabling/Heavy Civils experience to help efficiently and effectively run projects and be a vital line of communication between the site teams, senior members of the business and the end client.

Role and responsibilities:

  • Responsible for personnel resources, including site employees and sub-contractors. Effectively manage the site team in the effective use of such resources.
  • Ensure that the key roles are staffed with people who can effectively undertake their roles in the daily function of the business, that their roles are clearly defined and understood and that all personnel are motivated and managed to achieve the business's objectives.
  • Through an effective leadership style, ensure that all functions within the project are managed and operating to agreed objectives and targets, leading to completion of work to schedule and profitability.
  • Ensure that good relations with suppliers are established and maintained so that the most favourable deals are facilitated for the benefit of both the business and the supplier.
  • Liaise with the client on site and represent the Company at progress meetings to provide a customer/client focused approach to the project and resolve operational and design issues. Client negotiation from inception to final account.
  • Responsible, in conjunction with the site QS and the Commercial Manager, for all contractual and other on site administration, keeping accurate records of all stages of the contract.
  • Compliance with Health and Safety Regulations,and ensuring that policy and procedures are implemented throughout the operations under your responsibility. This will include the ownership and promotion of site health and safety.
  • Accurate and timely delivery of the project on schedule and within budget, allowing all resources, materials, plants, etc., to be available as necessary.

The individual (essential experience skills/experience in bold):

- Industry experience - (ideally HV cabling/civils) and if not Rail or similar industries. Site experience within one or more of these industries is also essential.

- Degree in Civil Engineering or similar

- Experience working on Civils/Cabling projects between £100k - £6 million in valuation

- Document driven - audit processes, excel/word, IT literate

- Commercially savvy of budgets and variations - NEC 3 and 4 contract experience. Needs to understand contractual requirements, especially on notifications, early warnings etc.

- Planning knowledge, a proven track record in managing site teams and sub-contractors, RAMS (Managing Risk) and Quality control.

- Experience working for Tier 1 OR 2 businesses/smaller company experience

- Experience of working with industry tier 1's - National grid, SSE, Balfour Beatty, Scottish Power etc.

- Prior history of longevity or loyalty to long-term projects

- Must be prepared to travel to sites UK Wide (or offices in St Helens) as and when projects require it (circa once a week on average)

- Muck in attitude, open to getting involved with site activities when on site and required to

- Ability to generate your own documentation - method statements etc

- Client facing skills - must be able to provide consistent voice between APS and client

- Detail orientated - must be able to plan for projects/programs. Need to have experience in being organised and forward thinking in their decision making.

- High standards in themselves - must be driven to deliver for the benefit of the company and client.
