Tooling Engineer - Injection Moulding
West Birmingham
Automotive Tier 1
Pay Rate £30 - £33 p/h
6 Months Contract

A key client of ours is looking to bring on board an interim tooling engineer to support the current injection moulding team. You will be responsible for project engineering and the creating of a series of tooling which will be manufactured into injection moulded components.


  • Review plastic component and understand if the design can be produced by injection moulding tooling

  • Provide a specification for the required tooling which will go out to tender

  • Provide toolmaker costs to allow sourcing

  • Approve the tooling designs from the toolmakers

  • Understand plastic and mould tool materials to ensure the tool is correctly specified and robust.

  • Provide tooling feasibility reports to support design for manufacture

  • Review component inspection report and correct mould tool

  • Support trials at toolmakers to de-bug the tool prior to acceptance and shipping from toolmaker. Deliver the tooling on time

  • Resolve any issues that arise when the tool is being trialled at the manufacturing site after shipping from the toolmaker

  • Support manufacturing group to resolve concerns on current tools

  • Coordinates with customers

  • Manage multiple tooling projects.


To be successful in the role of Tooling Engineer, you may have previously worked as a Process Engineer, Senior Toolmaker, Production Engineer, Project Engineer, Manufacturing Engineer or NPI Engineer and you will possess the following skills and experience:

  • Highly experienced injection moulding Tooling Engineer

  • Knowledge of how to manufacture components with injection moulding techniques

  • Proven experience of working within the Automotive industry

  • Able to interrogate the feasibility of tool design

  • This role will also involve travel to toolmakers and manufacturing locations globally.
