BMS Design Engineer – Data Centres – UK – Outside IR35

We are currently recruiting for an experienced BMS Design Engineer for an exciting outside IR35 contract opportunity, supporting the delivery of data centre projects across the UK.

This role is ideal for a technically strong BMS Design Engineer with proven data centre experience and a strong design background, capable of supporting projects from concept through to detailed design and construction delivery.

This is a primarily remote-based contract, with occasional site visits as required.

The Role

You will be responsible for delivering high-quality BMS design solutions for major data centre / mission critical projects, working closely with project teams to support technical delivery across the full design lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

• Produce and develop BMS design packages for data centre projects
• Support project delivery across RIBA design stages, ideally Stage 1–5 (Stage 4–5 considered)
• Develop control philosophies, points schedules, network architecture, technical specifications, and design documentation
• Coordinate with consultants, M&E teams, contractors, and wider project stakeholders
• Review technical submissions, drawings, and design deliverables
• Provide technical support through installation, commissioning, and handover phases
• Attend occasional site visits, project meetings, and technical reviews as required

Requirements

• Proven experience as a BMS Design Engineer
• Essential: Strong data centre / mission critical project experience
• Strong background in BMS design / building automation systems
• Experience across RIBA stages 1–5 preferred (Stage 4–5 considered)
• Strong understanding of controls architecture, BMS integration, design documentation, and technical delivery
• Experience with systems such as Schneider EcoStruxure, Siemens, Trend, Honeywell, Tridium, JCI, Delta Controls
• Ability to work independently in a remote contract environment
• UK right to work
