Overview

We are seeking an M&E Design Engineer within the Data Centre sector to support the design and delivery of mission-critical facilities. This role is primarily remote, with flexibility to travel to sites throughout Europe when required. You will contribute across RIBA Stages 3–5, producing coordinated designs and supporting delivery teams through technical assurance, reviews, and site engagement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and coordinate mechanical and electrical (M&E) designs for data centre projects across RIBA Stages 3–5.
  • Produce and review design documentation including calculations, specifications, schedules, equipment selections, and technical reports.
  • Coordinate with internal stakeholders and external consultants to ensure multidisciplinary integration (architectural, structural, civil, ICT/controls).
  • Support design assurance, technical reviews, and compliance with relevant standards, codes, and client requirements.
  • Provide input into constructability, sequencing, commissioning planning, and handover requirements.
  • Attend and contribute to design workshops, technical meetings, and site visits across Europe as needed.

Essential Requirements

  • Proven M&E design experience, ideally within mission-critical or Data Centre environments.
  • Strong engineering background with demonstrable technical delivery experience.
  • Mechanical bias preferred (HVAC, cooling, ventilation, chilled water systems), however electrically biased candidates will be considered.
  • Experience working through RIBA Stages 3–5, including detailed design and construction support.
  • Understanding of data centre infrastructure (e.g., cooling strategies, resilience, redundancy, equipment layouts, and operational constraints).
  • Ability to collaborate remotely with distributed teams and manage priorities to meet programme deadlines.
  • Flexibility to travel to sites throughout Europe if required.

Desirable

  • Experience with design coordination tools and BIM workflows.
  • Knowledge of commissioning, IST, and integrated delivery on live or phased sites.
  • Professional engineering registration or progress towards chartership.

What You’ll Bring

  • Clear technical communication and the confidence to challenge and improve designs.
  • Pragmatic, solutions-focused approach with strong attention to detail.
  • Commitment to safe design, quality, and best practice engineering.
