About the role

An established organisation operating in a technically complex, customer-focused industry is continuing to grow and is looking to appoint an experienced Project Manager to join its expanding team.

Reporting to the Programme Manager, you will be responsible for coordinating and delivering a portfolio of complex, high-value projects. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Project Manager with a strong track record of successful project delivery to take ownership of challenging programmes and work closely with customers, senior stakeholders and multidisciplinary teams.

Key responsibilities

  • Act as the primary point of contact for customers throughout the project lifecycle.

  • Manage a portfolio of related projects, ensuring customer requirements are achieved while meeting business objectives for schedule, budget, delivery, risk and commercial performance.

  • Monitor project performance against agreed plans, costs and delivery milestones, identifying and implementing appropriate corrective actions.

  • Conduct regular cost, schedule, performance and risk reviews.

  • Identify, prioritise and secure the resources required for successful project execution, including facilities, equipment and personnel.

  • Provide accurate and timely cost and schedule information to internal and external stakeholders.

  • Provide effective project leadership and manage customer interfaces throughout the project lifecycle.

  • Communicate clearly with senior management, project teams and wider stakeholders to establish a shared understanding of scope, objectives and delivery plans.

  • Lead, motivate and develop project teams by setting clear goals, providing direction and creating a collaborative environment focused on successful outcomes.

  • Undertake other reasonable duties and responsibilities relevant to the role.

About you

The successful candidate will be an experienced Project Manager with a demonstrable record of establishing and delivering projects across the full lifecycle, from concept and launch through to product development, transition to production, delivery and ongoing support.

You will ideally have:

  • APM qualification or equivalent, or demonstrable commitment to working towards a recognised project management qualification.

  • Proven experience delivering complex projects successfully.

  • Strong leadership, delegation and teamwork skills, with a collaborative approach.

  • Excellent communication, influencing and stakeholder management skills at all levels.

  • Strong commercial and business awareness, with a customer-focused and commercially minded approach.

  • The resilience and judgement to operate effectively under pressure and within challenging project constraints.

  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office.

  • Experience managing multidisciplinary projects, particularly those involving systems engineering, integration and/or manufacturing.

  • Experience within the maritime, defence or another highly regulated/technically complex industry would be advantageous.

  • Flexibility to undertake routine UK travel and occasional overseas travel.

What you'll bring

We are looking for someone who combines strong project management expertise with excellent interpersonal and commercial skills. You will be comfortable taking ownership, making informed decisions, managing competing priorities and building effective relationships with customers and colleagues.

You will also demonstrate a commitment to:

  • Integrity – acting honestly, taking ownership and doing the right thing.

  • Safety – maintaining high standards of safety for colleagues, customers and stakeholders.

  • Quality – consistently delivering work to a high standard and meeting or exceeding expectations.

  • Innovation – looking for better, more effective ways to solve problems and improve performance.

  • Customer focus – keeping customer needs at the forefront and delivering on commitments.

  • Teamwork – collaborating effectively and supporting colleagues to achieve shared objectives.

The opportunity

This is a key role within a growing organisation, offering the opportunity to lead complex projects, work with a broad range of stakeholders and make a tangible contribution to the successful delivery of high-value programmes.
