Substation Technical Lead – EMEA - MAINLY REMOTE

The Role

We are looking for an experienced Substation Technical Lead to take technical ownership of HV/EHV substations and grid connections supporting large-scale data centre projects across EMEA.

This is a senior technical position covering the full lifecycle from grid connection and concept design through to EPC delivery, commissioning and energisation. The role will work closely with TSOs, DSOs, EPC contractors, consultants and equipment suppliers across multiple European markets.

Key Responsibilities

• Own the technical strategy for HV/EHV substations and grid connections across multiple projects.
• Develop and review SLDs, technical specifications, protection philosophies and reference designs.
• Manage technical interfaces with European TSOs, DSOs and grid connection authorities.
• Oversee EPC contractors and provide technical governance throughout design and delivery.
• Support procurement of major equipment including transformers, GIS/AIS, MV switchgear, protection and control systems.
• Coordinate power system studies including load flow, short circuit, harmonics and protection coordination.
• Review technical designs, calculations and specifications against IEC/EN standards and grid requirements.
• Support CAPEX estimates, programmes, tender evaluations and long-lead equipment strategy.
• Provide technical support through FAT, SAT, commissioning and energisation.

Experience Required

• 7+ years' experience within HV/EHV substations.
• Strong background across substation engineering and delivery/construction.
• Experience with transmission-level substations, typically 110kV–400kV.
• Experience working with European TSOs and/or DSOs and grid connection processes.
• Strong knowledge of transformers, GIS/AIS, MV switchgear, protection, control, SCADA, earthing and HV cables.
• Experience managing EPC contractors, consultants and equipment suppliers.
• Electrical/Power Systems Engineering degree or equivalent.
• Excellent English communication skills.
• Willingness to travel across EMEA.
