Welding Engineer (ISO 3834)

We’re looking for a Welding Engineer who thinks beyond the weld.

This isn’t a role for someone who simply follows procedures, maintains paperwork and keeps things compliant.

As our Welding Engineer, you’ll play a key role in developing and improving how we manufacture, weld and solve technical challenges. You’ll bring new ideas, new techniques and new ways of working, helping us become more efficient, capable and technically advanced.

Technical authority that means something

Working within the requirements of ISO 3834, this role carries genuine technical responsibility.

Your understanding of welding theory, materials, processes and qualification requirements will give you the technical authority to assess, develop and authorise appropriate welding procedures and methods within your area of competence.

That authority isn't about signing a document because a standard says you can.

It’s about having the knowledge behind the signature.

Understanding the metallurgy.
Understanding the process.
Understanding heat input, materials, joint design and weld performance.
Understanding the risks — and knowing how to control them.

In other words, you’ll understand the theory behind the procedure, not just the procedure itself.

What you'll be doing

• Take technical ownership of welding engineering activities within the business.

• Develop, review and improve welding procedures and working methods.

• Identify opportunities for new processes, techniques, equipment and technologies.

• Challenge established methods and find smarter, more efficient ways of working.

• Provide technical guidance on welding processes, materials, defects and weld performance.

• Support the development and qualification of welding procedures and personnel.

• Ensure welding activities meet relevant standards, specifications and customer requirements, including ISO 3834.

• Work closely with production, quality, design and engineering teams to solve real manufacturing problems.

• Investigate welding issues and develop practical, technically sound solutions.

• Keep up to date with developments in welding technology, standards and best practice — and bring those ideas into the business.

• Act as a technical authority and source of knowledge for welding across the organisation.

We’re particularly interested in someone who can combine strong welding theory with practical manufacturing experience — someone who can move comfortably between the technical detail and the shop floor.

What we're looking for

• Recognised welding engineering / welding technology qualification or equivalent experience.

• Strong knowledge of welding processes, materials and welding metallurgy.

• Experience working with ISO 3834 and relevant welding standards.

• Experience in developing, reviewing or qualifying welding procedures.

• A sound understanding of welding procedure qualification and the technical principles behind it.

• The ability to interpret standards and apply them intelligently to real engineering situations.

• Practical manufacturing / fabrication experience.

• A genuine interest in innovation and continuous improvement.

• The confidence to challenge existing practices and introduce new ideas.

• Strong communication skills and the ability to influence people across engineering, production and quality.
