​You’ve worked hard to get here, you’ve taken all the right steps, now its show time! Time to show the interviewer that you would be the ideal candidate for the job.

This is the part that candidates can fall down on, so if you are about to attend an interview take notes of the following top 8 tips.

1)      Researching into the company

Make sure before attending the interview you do as much research as possible in to the products, customers and competition. The more you know about the company, the better chance you have of selling yourself.

2)      Dress code

Dress smart. That way you will come across more confident and professionally.

3)      Body Language

It’s not what you say, it’s how you say it. Eye contact, and confident body language are both essential.

4)      Remember your manners

It is better to choose than to be chosen. Tell the interviewer why you are interested in the company and job opportunity. Follow the opportunity up by sending a “thank-you” email or letter, saying how much you enjoyed the interview and how interested you are. Take the opportunity to detail the key advantages you will bring.

5)      Why you?

Think of example of how you can demonstrate the required skills. Be ready to talk about your knowledge, experience, abilities and skills. Have key three points about yourself and how you can benefit the company.

6)      Why them?

Also think of examples why you want to work for that company, look into recent projects, success stories and how they have grown as a business over the past few years.

7)      Know your 5 year plan

One of the most common questions that an interviewer asks is “where do you see yourself in 5 years’ time?” Make sure you have prepared around this, to show you are ambitious and have long term prospects with that company.

8)      Prepare some potential interview questions

Everyone likes to talk about themselves, so make sure to prepare some questions which give the interviewer that opportunity, “what is your background?” This is also an opportunity for you to do some more digging around the job opportunity. Never ask about salary or hours of work on a first interview!
