Fantasy football in the workplace should not be written off as just a ‘distraction’ for the office, recent research suggests otherwise. In a study completed by Peninsula, HR and employment law specialists, discovered that 62% of employees find that involvement in an office fantasy football tournament boosts their morale with 49% stating that it has been an effective way of establishing and developing relationships in the office. A similar survey also found that employees playing in a fantasy league with colleagues have higher scores on survey items measuring teamwork and trust with colleagues.
At Core Talent, it isn’t just the recruitment consultants who get in on the act. The management team including our Head of Marketing are all very much involved too. Fantasy football can not only ‘break the ice’ for new people coming into the business but is also promotes competitiveness and creativity which are traits required to be a successful recruitment consultant.
From personal experience being involved in the league with my colleagues at Core Talent, inter-office rivalries start to develop, whether you are discussing Lukaku’s astronomical price tag or the extent of an injury to a Peruvian defender nobody has ever heard of is something everybody can enjoy and partake in without controversy, and trust me when I tell you, there is nothing sweeter that having more points and beating your boss after he has been talking up his tactical masterclass all week!
An office that is engaged with one another will ultimately benefit each other internally, but how can this benefit people outside of the office? As the importance of teamwork is not limited to the workplace but also to the service provided to customers and Core Talent is upheld by its reputation to deliver for our customers. Generally speaking, people tend to shy away from companies with and prefer doing business with organisations whose employees demonstrate a strong work ethic and team spirit. Teams that work well together are, therefore, essential in improving service and meeting the needs of customers.
In Summary, a fantasy football league can seriously benefit the individual, the business and its customer base if encouraged and supported correctly by all those involved. I would like to finish with a quote that I think, underpins the importance of cohesion within an organization -“The achievements of an organization are the results oft he combined effort of each individual”.-Vincent Thomas “Vince” Lombardi
