In December each year, we vote for a local charity to support in the next year. We set a financial target and also collect and donate practical items which are distributed by the charity. Whether it’s a Sky Dive, Fun Run or an event like Tough Mudder, everyone works together to achieve the target.
In 2018 we supported Mustard Tree who tackle both the causes and consequences of poverty and homelessness in Manchester. Mustard Tree helps people to change their lives, secure better accommodation and economic wellbeing.
Their focus is on tackling both the causes and consequences of poverty and homelessness. Since 1994 they have created opportunities for people to help themselves through providing practical support, friendship, connections into work and improvements to health & wellbeing, alongside new experiences to encourage aspiration.
We exceeded our £2,000 budget and raised £3,398 and donated over 40 wrapped Christmas presents. To find out more about the important work that Mustard Tree does click https://mustardtree.org.uk/
Wood Street Mission
In 2019, we supported Wood Street Mission a children’s charity helping children and families living on a low income in Manchester and Salford.
Wood Street Mission provide practical help to help meet children’s day-to-day needs and improve their life chances. Through Family Basics they provide struggling families with children’s clothes, bedding and baby equipment, and toys and books which are important for children’s wellbeing and development.
They promote engagement in education by helping families with the costs of going to school through Smart Start and run holiday Book Clubs to promote reading and improve children’s literacy. They also provide toys for children to have presents on Christmas Day.
Wood Street Mission also raise awareness about child poverty through their communications, holding events and giving talks at schools, businesses and groups.
They help thousands of children and their families every year, and all their services are free for families to access on referral.
We raised £2097 and collected 150 items. We took part in various activities such as a Pizza Run, Skydive, Tough Mudder and other campaigns. Our donations and support have directly helped 100 children in #Salford & #Manchester.
We really enjoyed supporting such a wonderful charity and were glad to exceed our target by £97 and 35 items! To find out more about Wood Street Mission click https://www.woodstreetmission.org.uk/
Throughout 2021 and 2022 we will be supporting The Christie. The Christie charity provides enhanced services over and above what the NHS funds. Gifts from the public make a huge difference to the care and treatment that The Christie is able to provide to it's patients and their families. They are one of the largest hospital charities in the UK with 82p in every pound raised going directly to the patients.
In 2018/19, The Christie had 1050 community events, 7,175 sporting event participants and 8,507 donations from corporate fundraisers. They were left 172 legacies and had support from 60 charitable trusts. The Christie charity only exists because of all the fantastic support from all their amazing fundraisers. And whether it is giving your time, treasure and talent, they really do value everything you do. In return, they promise to ensure that all donations are spent as wisely and cost effectively as possible. To find out more about The Christie click https://www.christie.nhs.uk/the-christie-charity
