Are you an Engineering Manager who enjoys getting out on the shop floor, solving problems and making a genuine difference?

We’re working with a successful and profitable manufacturing business in Glossop that is looking for an Engineering Manager to take ownership of its engineering and maintenance function and help move the site towards world-class manufacturing standards.

This is a business with a strong track record and an exciting opportunity ahead — but the engineering function needs a forward-thinking leader who can bring structure, develop the team and, most importantly, change the way the site approaches maintenance.

The Opportunity

The site currently experiences a high level of breakdowns, and the engineering team has significant opportunity to become more proactive.

You’ll be responsible for leading and developing a team of electrical and mechanical engineers, while working hands-on to understand the root causes of problems and put sustainable solutions in place.

The long-term goal is simple: move from reactive maintenance to a genuinely proactive, preventative maintenance culture.

With an older manufacturing site and a complex range of equipment, this isn't a role where you can sit behind a desk and manage through reports. You’ll need to be visible, hands-on and comfortable getting involved when things go wrong — while making sure the same problems don't keep happening.

What You'll Be Doing

• Lead, coach and develop the site's electrical and mechanical engineering team.

• Drive a culture of planned and preventative maintenance, reducing reliance on reactive breakdown work.

• Take ownership of engineering performance, reliability and equipment availability.

• Get to the root cause of recurring failures and implement long-term corrective actions.

• Develop and improve the site's preventative maintenance strategy.

• Introduce greater structure, discipline and accountability across engineering.

• Identify opportunities to improve equipment reliability, efficiency and safety.

• Work closely with Production to minimise downtime and improve OEE.

• Develop engineers' technical capability through coaching, mentoring and training.

• Help create a more skilled, autonomous and forward-thinking engineering team.

• Manage maintenance across a diverse range of equipment, including pumps, electrical systems, stirrers and vessels.

• Support the ongoing improvement of an older manufacturing facility.

• Introduce more effective maintenance planning, spares management and engineering standards.

• Champion continuous improvement and help establish a world-class manufacturing mindset across the site.

About You

We're looking for an Engineering Manager who is more than a people manager.

You’ll be someone who wants to understand how the equipment works, why it fails and what needs to change to stop those failures happening again.

You'll ideally have experience in a manufacturing environment and a strong background across both mechanical and electrical engineering, together with proven experience leading and developing engineering teams.

Most importantly, you'll be:

• Hands-on and visible on the shop floor.

• A natural problem solver who enjoys getting to the root cause.

• Forward-thinking and willing to challenge the way things are done.

• Strong at developing engineers and raising technical capability.

• Comfortable working in an older, complex manufacturing environment.

• Passionate about reliability and preventative maintenance.

• Able to bring structure and accountability to a reactive engineering function.

• A strong communicator who can build effective relationships with Production and other departments.

• Someone who wants to make changes and leave the site in a significantly better place than they found it.
