About the Role:
We are seeking an experienced Electrical Design Engineer to support a key defence programme based in the Midlands. This is a 12-month contract role within a high-security environment, involving the design and development of electrical systems for mission-critical defence applications.
You will be working as part of a multi-disciplinary engineering team, contributing to the design, documentation, and integration of complex electrical systems in accordance with MOD and industry standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Design and develop electrical systems, schematics, wiring diagrams, and PCB layouts using appropriate CAD tools (e.g., AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN).
Ensure designs comply with relevant defence and safety standards (e.g. DEF-STAN, BS EN, IEC).
Create and maintain design documentation including BOMs, test procedures, and technical specifications.
Support integration, verification and validation of systems in test and production environments.
Work closely with Systems Engineers, Mechanical Engineers, and Project Managers to deliver designs on time and within budget.
Conduct design reviews and risk assessments in line with project and quality requirements.
Support EMC/Environmental testing and troubleshoot issues during development and prototyping phases.
Essential Requirements:
Proven experience as an Electrical Design Engineer within the defence, aerospace, or high-integrity engineering sectors.
Strong working knowledge of electrical CAD tools (AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN, or equivalent).
Experience designing to MOD and defence standards (e.g. DEF-STAN 00-35, 59-411).
Understanding of EMC compliance and environmental considerations.
Current SC Clearance or ability to obtain SC (Security Clearance).
Familiarity with electrical safety and regulations (e.g. BS7671).
Excellent communication and documentation skills.
Desirable Skills:
Experience with power distribution systems and control panel design.
Knowledge of military vehicle systems or naval/maritime systems.
Understanding of Systems Engineering lifecycle (V-model).
HNC/HND or Degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or related discipline.
Other Information:
Hybrid working may be available depending on project phase and security needs.
Candidates must be UK nationals and eligible to work in the UK without restriction.
This role may be deemed Outside IR35 (subject to determination).
