Salary: £50,000 - £60,000

Overview

We are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to support advanced construction projects, delivering high-quality mechanical building services designs across healthcare and cleanroom environments. This role suits someone with a strong background in construction/building services, capable of producing coordinated HVAC designs from concept through to construction.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop mechanical building services solutions, with a focus on HVAC systems for bespoke healthcare and cleanroom projects.
  • Produce and coordinate detailed drawings and models using AutoCAD and Revit.
  • Prepare calculations, schematics, layouts, equipment schedules, specifications, and technical reports.
  • Support project delivery from RIBA stages/feasibility through detailed design, tender, and construction support.
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure clash-free, compliant designs and effective integration with architectural and MEP elements.
  • Ensure designs meet relevant British Standards, Building Regulations, CIBSE guidance, and project-specific requirements.
  • Contribute to design reviews, value engineering, and risk management, including HVAC resilience and maintainability considerations.
  • Liaise with contractors, suppliers, and clients; respond to technical queries and site issues during construction phases.

Essential Requirements

  • Proven experience in mechanical design within building services/advanced construction environments.
  • Strong HVAC design capability (ventilation, heating and cooling, pressurisation, air distribution, plant selection).
  • Experience delivering healthcare and cleanroom projects within building services is highly beneficial.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit for production of coordinated drawings/models.
  • Good working knowledge of UK codes and standards (e.g., CIBSE, Building Regulations, relevant British Standards).
  • Ability to manage priorities, communicate clearly, and collaborate effectively in a hybrid working environment.
  • Right to work in the United Kingdom.

Desirable (Bonus)

  • Experience on healthcare or pharmaceutical projects (HTM).
  • Degree/HND in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services Engineering, and/or progress towards professional registration (e.g., IMechE/CIBSE).
