This senior leadership role is responsible for the end-to-end delivery of complex, mission-critical data centre projects within the advanced construction sector. You will lead multi-disciplinary teams, oversee programme, cost, quality, safety and risk, and ensure successful handover to operations. The position requires extensive experience working for a General Contractor delivering data centres across Europe, with proven capability operating in demanding environments and tight stakeholder governance.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic and operational leadership across all project phases, from pre-construction through commissioning and close-out.
- Own project governance, reporting, and decision-making, ensuring clear accountability and timely escalation.
- Lead programme and cost control, including forecasting, change management, and commercial performance.
- Manage client and consultant relationships, chair key meetings, and align stakeholders on scope, priorities and milestones.
- Oversee procurement strategy, subcontractor performance, and contract administration (e.g., NEC/FIDIC/JCT as applicable).
- Drive safety culture and compliance with applicable Icelandic and European regulations and standards.
- Ensure quality assurance, technical compliance, and readiness for testing, commissioning, and integrated systems validation.
Essential Requirements
- Must have been a Project Director with a General Contractor building data centres in Europe.
- Extensive senior leadership experience delivering large-scale, complex construction programmes (multi-million euro values).
- Strong understanding of mission-critical systems, construction sequencing, commissioning interfaces, and handover requirements.
- Demonstrable expertise in programme management, risk management, commercial control, and subcontractor management.
- Proven ability to lead and motivate large site and office teams, including Project Managers, Commercial, Planning and HSE staff.
- Excellent stakeholder management, negotiation, and communication skills, with high standards of reporting and governance.
- Degree-qualified in Construction Management, Civil/Structural Engineering, Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, or equivalent experience.
- Willingness to be based in Iceland with regular site presence.
Desirable
- Chartered status (e.g., CIOB, RICS, ICE, CIBSE) or equivalent professional accreditation.
- Experience with fast-track delivery models, BIM/digital delivery, and sustainability/low-carbon construction practices.
